Cape Byron has become one of Australia's and the world's most desirable and exciting tourist destinations. The traditional home of the Bunjalung people, it is Australia's most easterly point. Dominated by a superb historic lighthouse, it looks down on golden beaches stretching for miles.

The Byron Shire, covering an area of 566 square kilometres, is located at Australia's eastern-most point, 180km south of Brisbane, 800km north of Sydney.

Byron Bay has many moods - all of them engaging. There's the lively street life; regular outdoor markets with a rich array of foods and artifacts; more than a hundred restaurants and cafes offering a fantastic choice of cuisine; and always sun, beach and sea.

The famous Cape Byron lighthouse was opened in 1901 and has the most powerful beacon in Australia. Byron Bay has several beautiful beaches and it is a resort popular with both domestic and international tourists, including backpackers, who travel along the New South Wales, Australian coast.
